The Panchayati Raj can play a pivotal role in rural development, but at the condition, that the members are literate, knowledgeful, honest and noble. The members of the Panchayat must have inner qualities of love and compassion for the rural folks, else they are not eligible for the post.
The illiterate villagers should not be made the members of the Panchayat. The Panchayat member must be wise and educated, as an educated man can only understand the complications of problems and solve them.
The Panchayat members should be given proper training for a year, for the development of rural areas. They should be taught the intricacies of all the problems including, illiteracy, unemployment, dowry deaths and elimination of superstitions from the minds of the ignorant people. They also should be taught to solve the quarrels of the people through peaceful means and wise solutions.
The members of the Panchayat should be honest. They must not steal away the public money for personal use. The nation’s income should be utilized for the development of the nation. The villagers of the country should be paid special attention, as they give a poor impression of the country in the world. Moreover the poor people are always neglected in our society. They are living in miserable conditions. The wealthy people ill-treat them and make them work day and night for their vested interest, but pay them very little, inspite of earning huge profits with their labour.
The members of the Panchayat must not favour the rich people of the village if they are wrong, they must differentiate between right and wrong and favour the right whether he is poor or rich. The women and children are exploited by the selfish people in every field of life. The members of Panchayat must take strict steps against all the elements who torture women. If any member of the Panchayat indulge in corrupt means or pass wrong judgements, then he too should be punished by the higher courts if his crime is proved.
The members of the Panchayat could prove a boon to the society, if they render a helping hand in the development of villages, and become a curse, if they misappropriate the funds for personal use. Thus, the reins of the village reaching in the hands of the Panchayat members. If they are loyal the village would flourish and if they are frauds, the condition of the villages would deteriorate. Therefore it’s important to select right person as the member of the Panchayat. Only then can the villages prosper, and spread happiness in the country.
