Richter scale was developed by Charles Richter with the assistance of Beno Gutenberg in the year 1935. Both of them were from California Institute of Technology. Initially, they intended to use it in a study area of California. At first, Richter scale was used to get the values of the nearest quarter of any unit. Later on, it was improved and included decimal numbers. Day-by-day, this instrument started to be used to measure the value of an earthquake. It is actually used to measure the actual energy that is released by an earthquake. Nowadays it has become more advanced. Charles Richter got the inspiration to develop Richter scale from Stellar magnitude scale, which was used in the sector of astronomy to know the detail of the brightness of any star and celestial objects. It has no lower or upper limit. Seismograph has become advanced nowadays and can record earthquakes routinely.
