Smt. Indira Gandhi was the only child of Jawaharlal Nehrus, the first Prime Minister of India. She too was the first women Prime Minister of India, which became the ideal for Indian women. She was brilliant political strategist and thinker with an extraordinary desire for political power. She is stil alive in crores of heart for what she had done for this country and countryman. She had done lots of changes in Indian society doing her Prime Ministrialship. She tried her best to build the unity and integrity of our country. She also tried to improve our economic condition to make it self-dependent, and to modernise it. Her first term of Prime Minister wa from 19th January 1966 to 24th March 1977 and the second term ws from 14th January 1980 until her death. She judged the problems of winner more procticaly on she too was a women. In an speech she said—
“We should treat womens like human beings. Womens doesn’t want to occupy the position of goddess, but they should be given chance to show there talent and capability. They should be given equal status like men. Then only they can utilize their capabilities to leave the nation”.
Rajiv was one step ahead from his mother. He spoke for women in following lines—
We want to give special emphasis on the progress and development of women. We want to give them employment and better education. We had to clear the stain of backwordness on them. We had to make women excel in every field”.
After independence, the Congress govt. took such a conerete step by which womans should be evaluated not less then men in any field. Rajiv made same new laws for their development. He made many new schemes of employment for down-trodeen women and tried to give them cummercial training and also new homes for living. Rajiv estblished women development corporation so that women should become independent comemically and self-dependent. Rajiv was the youngest Prime Minister of India. Hence he very well understands the mentaliing of youths. Rajiv wanted every youth to move with the society on the basic of his own intelligence. They shumed realise the problems of our society and try to sort-out by utilising their brain. There should not be selfishness and misdiraction among youths. They should cooperate our leaders in removing bad customs from our society. He also said—
The youth of India are its greatest strength. We cannot forget the contribution made by youths during freedom struggle. They followed the path set out by the elders and devoted their full strength for India’s independence. The fight for independence was bought to make our country ahead in every respect. In the agitatious of Gandhiji and Nehruji also, special emphasis was given on human being.
On many ocasion Rajiv Pioneered the youth of India by his speeches. The problems of our coutnry can be sawed only when youth come femard. Todya there are varieties of problems in villages. The roals of villages are not proper. Formers ae not getting facilities of mater and power. In such cirumstanees, the youth should by their own should find out the cause of these porblems so that they can be sowed. The people who are making our contry weak on basis of caste, Religion, language; the youth should have to termitate such people. Youth should have to look, whether in Indian society, the money is not being misutitised. The people who are not honest, youths should handle them strictly. government money should not be misutitises. There are done of the things, youth should look after, if they wnat India to Develop.
Rajiv gave the slogan—“Build India”. This slogan is the voice of whole India. It makes is remember the evidence of our martyrs. This slogan echoes the request of th poor. Every Indian has to understand the meaning of this slogan, then only India and Indian people can develop.
Indian youth has oceupied important place in Indian polities. Previously thier unmber was less, but now there are many.
Under Rajiv’s Prime Ministrialship, different Ministry’s were established for the development of Human Resourses. Ministry formatted many new progammes to give new direction to youths. Under this youth were given golden opportunities to excel in every department, whether it is science and technology or polities, Arts, Culture or sports. Rajiv’s opinion was that, the future of a country can only be resolved by the youth.
For the development of India, Rajiv chalked-out such a plan by which unemployment can be removed. Under his plan, he wanted to give employment to youth so that India’s rate of eunimic development move higher and higher and unemployment, the lower.
For many years, since Rajiv came to power, there were question arising on the condition of present education policy. Hence Rajiv initiated to gree the people from the education procedure given by Britishes. At that time some people tried to find out demerits in the new education policy. They said that it is not possible for Rajiv’s government to apply new education policy because they didn’t love the requisite resources. But Rajiv turned a deaf ear to that and continued his work honstly.
Rajiv said—every Individual of our country is respectful/honourable. They should live self-dependetly with proud and should also insease their self-confidence. Realizing this, Rajiv arranged soo cure from budget for the new education policy. A reprot had been given by ministry regarding when and where the money is utilised. Report has said that to fulfil the targets of new education policy, fresh attanpts are under process. Expedition ins in full swing to literate the older people. Apont gram this, work is going on to make school education compulsory. Rajiv said emphasising this poling.
“The base of our development mill be strong only when every individula will link new education policey with his neccssity. Also they had to link it with cultural feelings.”
The outlay of new eduation policy had been dmbled by Rajiv, tahn it was in 1986-87. To develop competition between Indian industries, Rajiv made a healthy industrial policy. Under this policy he tried to stop the trend of monpoly. Before that Nehruji had praised such public industries which had played important role in the development of India. His saying was that where private industries had not been successful, public industires should come femard to invest capital in then for their development. Public industires had developed in Eastern India due to government policies but een the minimum divided fromthe capital invested in such industries had not been received. It’s main cause was lack of competition in market. Some industries were of such type, which had been running in losses five years. Governmant was compeusating their losses with its revenue.
Rajiv appealed to public industries to insiase production and work properly. His crities took it in wrong sucess. Crities thought that Rajiv government to public industries. They didn’t know that country’s progress is possible only when capital is connected to industrial production.
Government was investing fifty thousand crores every year in public industry. But crities didn’t realise that Indian economy was gaining expected income from that capital. On the basis of seventh plan, it was cleared that public industries are accomplishing their rold satisfactonily according to planned target. Although they had not given ineeme to government but they were busy in accomplishing targets put formard by the government.
After becaming the Pirme Minister, Rajiv trawelled from Kashmir to Kanya-Kumari (now Tiruvananthapuram). He met thousands of people staying there in villages. He come across their serrows and problems very closely and tried his level best to sort them out. Similarly he also visited the rural areas of Gujarat and Arunachal Pradesh and listened to their problems. Rajiv started many policies to give employment to villagess. he also gave spcial relief packages to state governments. Still he realised that there are some classes which had not yet been free from the wroth of poverty. This wroth is with those people, who doesnot have land for farming. Rajiv declared in an budget speech to coustitute a commission to remove poverty of landless farmers. According to this commission there was provision for every poor farmer to make him walk on the path of developmetn. Rajiv also made a programme “Food in exchange of work”. Under this programme extremely poor farmers can earn their livelihood, which were living without food.
Rajiv also thinked for the welfare of laboures of rural areas and workers linked to small industries in his new budget. Right from beginning, his government was taking gave of labouress and farmers. By doing this they save labouress from exploitation.
Those institution which are not paying provident fund and gratuity to laboures on time, were not given chance to earn revenue. The owners of institutions who take brike and run their institution for profit motive, for such institution there were provisions of punishmant for owners. Aslo it was neccssary to repay it. Hence reither of the capitalist care utilies the money of laboures. Rajiv government had made payment under provident fund, gratuity and employes state insuracne free from income tax. This heeped the salaried class people. Apont from this, they minimum pension of the fmaily was raised to Rs. 375 per month. This helped many workers all over India.
Rajiv told in his budget sppech that farmers should use most productive and best quality of seeds in their land so that they can earn maximum yield. At that time, many areas of India were suffering from seveve drought. Then also there was encrease of 1% in our foodgrains production. But this increase was not sufficiennt. The commodities which were imported, we had to increase thier production. For increasing agricultural production, governmant concentrated on crop irrigation and fertilizer. Undergoing projects of inigation were made to complete fastly. So increase the production of Urea, coustruection work of fertilizer hant in Vijaypur and Awla were paced. Rajiv’s budget has the speciality fo encouraging residential projects in both urban and rural areas.
Government had planned to establish a new residential Bank with Rs. 100 crore. This bank had to collect money for residential projects.
The House-Rusts in urban areas were increasing day by day. Central government had requsted all state governments to make necessary changes in house rent law so that continuously inseasing rents can be controlled.
Rajiv stressed very much to make poor rise above poverty time. For this the started many policeis.
On seeing inseasing danger to country, he made provision of Rs. 12,512 crore for the security of the country. He didn’t want to do any type of regligence on the matter of national security. Due to this, he declard increase in defence budget. Special emphasis was given for the welfare of soldiers in defence budget. On this Rajiv spoke—Our budgeted resourses had been bendered dut to insease in defene budget. I hope, parliament will cousent with our decision, because I had taken this step for the safety of our country. We can ready to bear any losses for the safety of our counting. We had continuously tried our best to uplift the morale of our Armies. We had mae special plan for the modernisation of defence.
During Rajiv’s regime India progressed very much. He maintained the tradition of his grand father and mother. Indian youth believed him to be their strength. They look in him the qualities like courtery and benevolence.
People appreicate the work done by Rajiv in such a less time. He was believd to be the tnce symbol of Yung India. He had all, patince, faith and devotion. He was always full of enthusiom and energy. His work has always same goal. He used to meet everybody with politeness. He also respected older persons very much.
