The ‘Basant Panchami’ of the year 1942 falls on 26th of March. This day had been choses by Pd. Jawaharlal Nehru for the marriage of his daughter ‘Indira’ with Firoz Gandhi. On the occasion of Marriage, the ‘Anand Bhawan’ had been decorated like a newly-wed bride. Happiness leems to be on every face.
The marriage ceremony had been performd i the lobby behind the house. Firoz Gandhi in a ‘Sarvani’ was looking handsome. Indira was looking very preety in a khadi Jari of Saffron colour. It was emboidered by siher flowers.
Although India was very happy but in between she become sad on remembering her mother because at that time her mother was no more. The mariage seremony came to an end. after that for honeymon they went to Kashmir.
After spending sometime in Kashmir, they returned back to Allabhabad—they took a house on rent in Fort Road and started living there happily. After sometime time changed and both of them started taking interst in national activities.
One day Indiraji was alone in her house. Firoz was in Lucknow for same work. Same students of Christian college met Indiraji and requested her to hoist the national fleg on the reasion of annual day function of the college. Indiraji agreed and participated in the function. When the entered the college, she saw huge battalions of police. The cops were appointed on the orders of the British Government.
The police restrained the college authorities to hoist the flag. On hearing this, all the students made their side strong and were ready to do anything against the cops. They were handly frightened by teh troops. At last when the situation went beyond control, the police started lathi charge and injured manyof them. On the otehr hand Indiraji without any heritation hoisted the flag but for this the also had to receive some Lathis. When Firoz Gandhi heard about the inident, he immediately rushed towards Allahabad to know her well-being.

At that time ‘Quit India Movement’ has in full suing. Gandhiji had already giventhe slogan of “Do or Die”. All the Indians were ready to saerifiee their live to release their motherland form the clutches of British Government. Many of the top leaders were already sent to jail to slow down the merale of the people. But not it was too late, nobody is goint to shop them. They had done whatever they liked but their main goal was to free India at any cost.
Christian college had roganised a publice meeting once again Indiraji had to provide over the meeting. This time Firoz Gandhi accompanied her. As soon as Indiraji started her sppech, the local police sumunded the meeting place. On seeing this she started spealing in a loud voice and with more enthusiarm. Then suddenly a British police peronnel moved towards Indiraji to arrest her. Then all of a sudden, Firoz Gandhi came in betwen adn had a hot discussion with the police persnoel. Lastly the dispute inseased further and both of than wee arrested.
The Government had sent both of then into seperate jails. In jail also Indiraji was quite oetivie for the welfare of her people. After some months, she was released from jail but Firoz Gandhi was shift in jail. After their marriage, the couple fully devoted themselves for the welfare of their country. Even in jail, they wee not distraeted from their purpose and wanted to serve their nation in future.
In jail Indiraji was not well. She was suffering from bronehial disease, so, she was realsed from jail on medical ground. In home also, her condition remained critical. At last the moved for ‘Anand Bahavan’ in her Father’s house. Here she had undergeme a though treatment and slowly she started recovering. After far days, Firoz Gandhi was released from jail and he also reached Anand Bhawan. Both of them started living in Anand Bhawan on the request of Jawaharlal, because Indiraji was not fully fit.
In the mean time, Indiraji became Pregnant. She couple were very happy ad they wanted to share this new with their Aunt living in Bombay. Krishnaji, the aunt of Indiraji wanted India. to come to Bombay as there was not female member in Anand Bhawan to took after her. So, with the consent of her husband, Indiraji left for Bombay. She was very well nursed by her aunt in Bombay.
