Pride goes Before a Fall

Pride is born out of over-confidence. It is considered to be a sin. Pride often results in weaknesses. There are many things which builds pride in a man. These are riches, status, power, recognition, ability, etc. The saying that pride goes before a fall is proved by several instances. Take, for example, the story of the hare and the tortoise. The hare was over confident of running fast and reaching the destination before time. He slept on the way and lost the race to the tortoise. It is seen that many students who scored high marks have become so over-confident of their achievements that they consider themselves as above average and neglect their studies. Consequently, they lose their high position. The feeling of pride in achievement makes a person lazy. It is the cause of laziness. A proud person is self-centred. He does not likes to listen to other people’s advice. He thinks that he knows everything. One must learn from the examples that pride had resulted in the fall of many. One should be humble in life.
