Political analyst Chanakya

The politial scene during Chanakya early period, was not healthy. Infact, it was very disturbing and confusing. The lands were ruled by arrogant kings and the tyrants with the help of the fiefs and the rich mobs who really were exploiting the masses economicaly. The rulers had no constitution or administrative systems. The whims of the rulers or the people in power were the order of the day.
It affected the lives of the common folk which included Chanakya. So, he made it a habit to study and analyse the political and the social condition on his own. He was learning lessons from the happenings taking place around.
It was during this period that rough outlines of an ideal constitution, administrative and economic system were getting drawn in Chanakya’s creative mind. Over a long period of time the ideas crystalised in his mind and he was able to translate them into well defined and drafted documents.
The unfolding events were providing him the valuable data. The kingdoms were in urmoil for various reasons. An alien invader named Alexander was marching towards the east on his mission of the world conquest. His large and well equipped army was trampling upon the kingdoms falling in its way and it was drawing closer to Taxila city.
Refugees from the conquered cities were pouring into Taxila seeking refuge. A new situation has arisen. Chanakya observed it keenly. A city accustumed to welcoming the seekers of knowledge was being flooded with shelter seekers who had no money and valuable things to take care of their basic needs even. The situation in the university became chaotic. The students were outnumbered by hungry and poor people who needed help.
The king of Taxila and the rulers of the neighbouring lands hold a meeting to discuss the problem. The people of wisdom and experience gave various suggestions. At last a consensus emerged that the refugees be settled temporarily on a large stretch of land outside Taxila city so as not to disturb the teaching at the university and to protect the academic atmosphere of the city.
The refugees could enter the city between sunrise and sunset and production of passess issued to them at the gate of the city. And they were to confine themselves to markets and not venture into university area.
Thus Chanakya saw at first hand the consequences of the foreign invasion, its political and social fall outs. He learnt what it takes to deal with the situation and problems arising out such events.
By the time Chanakya graduated. He had become a political and social analyst as well.
