Part 6. Tipu Sultan

Tubharjang along with Karim Shah had reached Hyderabad. He had narrated the situation to Nizam.
That night Karim Shah rested in royal guest house. Nizam thanked Tubharjang that he brought Karim Shah with him. Karim Shah too acknowledged Nizam of the opinion of his father that at any cost he will not accept friendship with British.
Listening it Nizam got red hot—How dare Hyder Ali to strike our friendship with toes. He insulted me and Company Govt. Now he will have to face the consequences.

Nizam’s royal court was on. Karim Shah was also present there. After formalities Nizam turned to Karim Shah and said, “Karim Shah it is you sagacity that you came here with Tabharjang. If you remain there you might not alive today and Mysore would have lost his king.”
“I couldn’t follow you Nawab.”
“Karim Shah, Mysore throne is your’s and I shall bestow you with the help of British. Hyder Ali and Tipu have lost their right to throne by denying the friendship of mine.”
Karim Shah stood and bowed his head in respect of Nizam.
‘‘Your father has lost his senses, therefore being foe of British he wants his subjects to be killed and your brother—Tipu…He has become arrogant in pride of power. He does not know that he is not more than a straw in comparison of British armies who will convert Mysore into graveyard.” Nizam continued.
“I tried my best to compel my father that enmity with Nizam is not good. Friendship with British means to make a neighbourer happy but he did not bother.”
“Your duty was to alert him, if he does follow that is his wish. He sent Kamruddin to Maharashtra for getting their assistance against British and I also sent a messenger to Maharashtra. Queen Krishna Bai has refused friendship of Mysore and accepted my offer. Being a woman she could guess the consequences but being a man your father could not understand delicacy of the circumstances. In fact he is arrogant.”
“Did her Prime Minister agree for friendship with the British?”
“No, he is also arrogant like your father. I have heard that he has sent Kamruddin back to Mysore and himself he is organising army of Marathas. With Maratha army he will move towards Mysore to fight against the British.”
“When could British armies reach?” Karim Shah asked. Actualy he was eager to become the king of Mysore, when his father and brother will be killed in war. He was eagerly waiting for that moment.
“The British armies will reach Mysore by today.”
Then Tubharjang said, “Nawab Sir. Tipu had insulted me. He just put me in prison as an offender. If Karim Shah has not played the trick he might have hanged me to death.”
Nawab raised his hand, “He will have to undergo the punishment for disrespect to our Commander. You also listen Karim Shah. From one side British armies will attack over Mysore and our armies by the other side. I want to show Hyder Ali that enmity with the neighbour is not fruitful.”
This conversation was going on then a sentry entered and told that special spy wants to meet Nizam.
At once Nizam call him in.
Special spy saluted and said, “May your dignity be high.”
“What’s the news?”
“British armies have reached Mysore. General Demonson is ready to attack.”
“Very good. I was waiting for this moment. Keep a close eye on the situation and inform me. Mr. Prime Minister. Issue order to the army to get ready and ask Deewan to set out for Mysore. I promised to General Demonson that against Mysore I shall help him.”
“As you order Nawab Sir.”
Prime Minister departed at once.
In the absence of Tubharjang another person was promoted as Commander of the army. As yet Tubharjang was rankless. After the departure of Prime Minister he said, “Your Highness. May I speak something?”
“Yes, carry on.”
“If you order then I also want to take part in war and revenge Tipu for my insult.”
“You must go Tubharjang. I am proud of you.” Nizam said proudly.
Hesitatingly Tubharjang said again, “Karim Shah too desires to come with me. After all he is to be introduced to General Demonson for their friendship.”
“Sure, sure, take him too.”
The royal court was adjourned. After that as per order of Nawab Tubharjang and Karim Shah started preparations for war.

Nizam armies were proceeding towards Mysore. It was a big army of cavalry men. Behind horses there were elephants, then infantry.
Karim was too happy.
He has no dejection that his motherland is being surrounded by enemies. He himself was in that group and desired that vanity of his land to be plundered. Not thinking that his father and brother are in trouble, he was thinking about the throne of Mysore. He was sure that if British win then Nawab and British would enthrone him.
This idea was confirmed by Tubharjang, he was stating, “Karim Shah! You have forwarded your hand towards me for friendship then I too shall perform my duty. Until I see you sitting on the throne of Mysore till then I shall not rest in peace.”
Such talk of Tubharjang were encouraging him.

Mysore had been surrounded from all sides.
British armies had besieged the city and shells were being showered. By bombarding enemy armies were narrowing the circle so that they may be able to reach the main entrance of the city unobstructed.
General Demonson riding on a horse was encouraging his soldiers.
Thus military was proceeding. Anyone who came on their way was butchered mercilessly.

Several days passed but there was no response from Mysore side. General Demonson seemed wondered, hopeless and annoyed.
At night British army stopped the charge.
Today even position was the same. After cease-fire all soldiers and officers had entered there tents.
General Demonson was sitting in his camp. His chief commander was present with him. Outside the tents lamps were on which were incapable to remove the darkness of the atmosphere.
Sentries were patrolling with rifles.
General Demonson sit silently. Commander said, “After passing several days there is no response from Mysore side? Neither Hyder Ali nor Tipu reached the battlefield.”
“They are afraid of us. Due to fear they are not coming out. Who may dare to face Company Govt.” Intoxicated General said.
“You are right Sir. They have refused our slavery…now slavery is right word, friendship strike on foes…They will have to admit our slavery. They
“Why sir, why should we not do some alteration tomorrow?” another one said.
“What does that mean?”
“I mean that Mysore city should be robbed tomorrow. Houses should be set on fire! Massacre in city…”
“But entrance of the fort..”

“It should be blown by shells. When our armies will enter the city and destruct then Hyder Ali will have to come out helplessly.”
“Oh yes… good idea. Very good! In the mean time another commander entered. He told, “Sir! Military of Nizam Hyderabad has arrived. Another news is that Karim Shah, the younger son of Hyder Ali is also with Tubharjang and they want to see you. Nizam has written in his letter that he must be treated as king of Mysore.”
“Let him come. I am waiting for him eagerly.”
“Who? Karim Shah or military of Hyderabad?”
“Hyderabad Military.”
“Why So?”
“Nizam military invade at Mysore. Muslim will behead Muslim and we shall enjoy. How it will be?”
“It shall be better General,” both commander together said merrily. First commander said, “I don’t know what these Indians are made of. They always had the intention to hurt their neighbour. There is no unity.”
“That’s why we have settled our feet her. There is no unity in their families too.” General Demonson said, “Just see the family of Hyder Ali. Having ambition of throne Karim went against his father and brother. Not only that much he is coming with his father’s foes to see their death show.”
Both commanders smiled at General Demonson statement.
