The Pacific torpedo ray is a fish that is slate grey or brown with dark spots and a white belly. It grows up to 1.4 metres long and weighs 41 kg. They have paired respiratory openings behind the eyes, rounded pectoral fins and thick tails with two dorsal fins. This solitary and nocturnal creature feeds on bony fish, cephalopods and invertebrates.
