We live in Delhi. My uncle is a C.E.O. in a Gurgaon based multinational firm. He spends his Sundays mostly with us in Delhi. He is a fishing enthusiast who always talks of the one that got away.
One Sunday morning he arrived in his jeep loaded with fishing implements. He almost dragged me along on his fishing expedition to Hindon river which flows near Delhi. We were there after an hour’s drive. The uncle (C.D. Verma) fiddled with his fishing gear squealing with excitement. He put bait in the hook and cast the line in river water and smiled at me as if saying ‘Watch the show, kid!’ Half an hour passed and nothing happened.
The sky was overcast. Suddenly the sky rumbled and lightning flashed. And it started to rain. My uncle cursed. He had to abandon the fishing and we drove back as the rain changed into hail storm. We got off the jeep and rushed into our sitting room. Both of us had begun to sneeze. My father laughed and said to my mother, “I don’t see any fish but they did catch cold. Ha, Ha, Ha!”
