In 1872, in the town of Meredith, New Hampshire, construction workers unearthed a mysterious, dark egg-shaped stone. The stone measures 4 inches in length and 2.5 inches wide, bearing a variety of carved symbols. Carvings on one side of the stone show an ear of corn and several other figures. The other side is more abstract, featuring inverted arrows, a moon shape, some dots and a spiral. Holes are bored into both sides and ends of it. The stone is a type of quartzite. The stone is currently on exhibit at the Museum of New Hampshire History.
