Yesterday was my birthday. Because it was a school day, I did not have a party on the actual day of my birthday. The party is to be on Saturday at the swimming pool.
I got up early yesterday so that I could open the presents from my parents. They had bought me a great new bike and I could not wait to get home from school to go for a ride on it.
I also unwrapped the presents and cards that had arrived by post. Most of my aunts and uncles had sent me money for my bank and they had been very generous. My paternal granny and grand dad had sent me a new football strip and a book token.
I was thrilled with all my gifts, but I was very disappointed that there was nothing from my maternal granny and granddad. They now live overseas in England, but they always remember my birthday. Indeed, they usually send a present several days before my birthday in order to be sure that it will arrive in time.
Perhaps the present had arrived earlier and my mother had forgotten to give me it. I ran to ask her; she said that no present had arrived from England. I went off to school, feeling very miserable that my grandparents had forgotten my birthday.
When I got home from school my mother said that she had a surprise for me. She blindfolded and led me into the dining room. There was a special birthday tea on the table and round the table sat my grandparents! They had not forgotten my birthday! They had come in person to celebrate it with me! Furthermore, they had brought me some great new computer games. I was absolutely delighted!
