Mummy’s Bracelet

Let’s call it “mummy chic” or “rag-tag retro”. Make your fifth grader catch the new (or very, very old) trend of monster-themed jewellery with a bracelet fashioned just like everyone’s favourite bandaged pharaoh.
What You Need:
❑ Yellow duct tape
❑ Scissors
❑ Table

❑ Newspapers
❑ Fabric scraps
❑ Gold confetti
❑ Glue
What You Do:
1. Make your child cut strips of yellow duct tape. Don’t worry too
much about the length — the strips will be layered to form the bracelet.
2. As he cuts each strip, make him stick the strip’s end to the edge of a table.
3. Help him layer newspapers over the table.
4. Show your child different ways to layer, wrap and overlap the duct tape. If he wants to get fancy, he can even try to braid the tape strips.
5. Let him take his fabric scraps and begin to wrap and tie them to the duct tape bracelet. Depending on what you have at home, the scraps could stick to a specific colour theme (yellow, white and brown for the traditional mummy) or go for a rainbow mash-up of colour.
6. Make your child place his bracelet on the newspapers.
7. Make him dribble drops of glue sparingly over the fabric and tape.
8. Make him sprinkle a few pinches of gold confetti over the glue puddles.
9. Leave the bracelet to dry for an hour or two.
10. Once the glue has dried into hardened globs, the mummy bracelet is ready to wear. Let your child show off his Halloween spirit — and his mummy pride!
