The Monumento a la Mitad del Mundo, Spanish for Monument to the Equator, was built in the Middle of the World City, in Ecuador, between 1979-1982. The Monument to the Equator is 30 metres in height and pinpoints the exact location of the Earth’s Equator. Constructed in concrete and iron the monument is covered in polished andesite stone. It is shaped in a pyramidal style and is topped with a globe, 4.5 metres in diameter. A small museum sits inside the monument.
