Mining Engineering is an important career in today’s times Mining Engineering has proved to be an important branch of Engineering in which there are good career prospects after school education. Mining heritage is included is economic resources of any country. Mining resources means minerals like Petroleum, Magnese, Coal, Iron etc. These minerals are hidden under the layers of earth and water. Those who clear this exam are eligible to get to admission in B.Tech. B.E. (Mining), B.Sc. (Engineering Mining) etc. In written examination, candidates are asked questions related to english, physics, chemistry and maths. The level of question as intermediate. There are a few seats reserved for schedule caste, schedule tribe, handicapped and children of security officers. SC and ST candidates were given 5 years concession in their age limit. Graduates in Mining Engineering can get admission in post graduation course. Graduation course is of 5 years and Post graduation (M.E. or M.Tech.) is of 2 years duration. In some of the western countries, mining engineering is taught thoroughly. In countries like UK, USA, Australia & New zealand etc. there are many institutes and universities which give high class thorough education in mine engineering. To get education in Mining Engineering from western countries one has to clear a tough exam, called Graduate Record Examination (G.R.E).
In 1962, Indian School of Mines was established in Dhanbad (Bihar) on the same lines as Royal School of Mines in London. It is an exclusive mining education institute in the Asian continent. It is recognised and well known institute to provide quality education in Mining Engineering.
This institute is also recognised as Deemed University by University Grant Commission. Every year in the published advertisement, those students who are in the age group of 16-21 and have done intermediate in subjects like physics, chemistry, maths are eligible to get admission in this course. Exams are conducted at All India level in many institutes of the country, in the month of May. Candidates are selected on merit and admission is given in Petroleum Engineering, Mining Engineering, Mineral Engineering and Mining Machinery, a 4 years course in B.Tech. From this institute one can do M.Phil. and Ph.D. also.
