Princess Mildred had a dreadful memory. She could not remember names and she misplaced everything. “You have to remember things, Millie,” scolded the queen, “Princesses are supposed to remember faces and names always! And how can you forget where you have put your tiara or the ear-rings?” Millie decided to improve her memory. Millie kept reciting poems or the tables she had learnt. Then she began to memorise the things she had seen in each room of the palace. She learnt the names of flowers and trees, and then learnt the names of vegetables and herbs! One by one, she would try to remember faces and names. One day when several visitors came to the court, Millie astounded the queen by remembering everything correctly! “How did you manage that, Millie?” she asked. “I remember what you said, Mother,” replied Millie, “I taught myself memory games and now I’m perfect!”
