Membership of independent Labour Party

Hitler’s oratory skills had won the admiration of his military superiors. They now treated him with great respect.
One day the superiors ordered Hitler to keep an eye on the activities of a political group called German Labour Party and prepare a report. A few days later the party was to hold a meeting where the party leader named Grant Freud Feder was to be the main speaker. Hitler decided to attend the meeting. Feder spoke and Hitler noted his speech.
The meeting was held in the guest house of one Strenker Brewrie which lasted for two hours. When Feder concluded his speech a professor spoke rubbishing whatever the former had said and put a question mark on the authenticity of his speech. Feder spoke in rebuttal and answered all the questions raised by the professor who quickly changed his tune and suggested that the party should include in its agenda the issue of the separation of Bavaria from Prussia. He made some other outrageous remarks also.
Then, Hitler sought the chair’s permission to speak. In his speech Hitler castigated the views of the professor who slunk away from the meeting. When Hitler got down from the stage a man dressed like a labourer approached him. He handed Hitler a pamphlet and went away.
Hitler went back to Second Infantry Battalion barracks where he used to live. In his room he read the pamphlet captioned ‘My Political Conscience’. It reminded him of his own old days.
A week later Hitler received a postcard which informed him that he had been nominated for the membership of German Labour Party. The intimation was a great surprise for him. The postcard also asked him to attend the next meeting of the party. It was obvious that his speech had made a good impression on the leaders of the party.
German Labour Party has been formed on 7 March, 1918. Its founder was Enton Drexlor. The party embraced both labour and nationalist elements. The aim of the party was to wean away those elements from the Marxists. In January 1919 several other small organisations were merged into it and Herr Herrer was nominated as the new president of the party.
On the due date Hitler went to the meeting of the party where he was welcomed as the party’s new member. The meeting was being held at Eltrosenbed situated on Herenstrausse. There were only a handful of members present there. The president was yet to come.
One year later, in January, 1920 Adolf Hitler was made publicity incharge of the party. One month later on 24 February Hitler organised a huge rally. His inspiring speech and oratory skills enthralled the audience. He was lustily cheered and given a standing ovation at the end of his speech. Everyone was full of praise for Hitler.
It was becoming clear that a new political star was in the making. In his speech he mentioned the reasons of the war, pacts and economic slump which were very convincing.
Adolf Hitler was then only 29 years old.
For Hitler Marxists and the Jews were responsible for all the woes Germany was suffering from. He was dreaming of eliminating the both and expanding the German empire.
In the month of March, Hitler got the chance to take over the charge of the party and make it immensely popular. The party was to prove the ladder for Hitler to reach the power. He had made it clear that Germany needed an efficient dictator to cleanse it of the destructive elements.
On 1 April 1920 Adolf Hitler formally resigned from the military service to devote himself fully to the politics as the leader of German Labour Party. Before him Major Rohem had already joined it. Major was of the view that the military must take part in the politics in the interest of the country. Many other military officers and soldiers followed the example of Hitler and Rohem and became political activists of that party.
