Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (Historical Personalities)

Maulana Azad was a great educationist, freedom fighter and a prolific writer. He was against the disintegration of India and never wanted partition of the country. He kept on toiling hard for the welfare of India till his last breath, and achieved greatness with his words and deeds.
This great leader of India was born on Nov. 11, 1889 in Mecca. His father Maulana Khaliluddin was against the western culture thus, he was not admitted to any English medium school. He came in touch with English only when his father died in the year 1909. He bought an English grammar and dictionary from the market and began to learn English at home.
He met Mahatma Gandhi in the year 1920. In 1923, he was appointed as the President of Congress. Later he became the education minister of the independent India.
Maulana was a fearless warrior of peace. He was sent to jail numerous times during the freedom movement. In the year 1914 a false case was filed against him by the Britishers.
Maulana Azad was a down to earth humble man. He didn’t like to boast about his achievements. One day the officers of universities came to him and requested him to give speech in the university. But he politely declined. He didn’t want to unnecessarily boast about his achievements, neither he wanted to come in limelight. He wanted to serve the country quietly.
He was a prolific writer, editor and a great poet.
One day, a man said that it was incredible that he could write such great philosophical Urdu poetry himself. There must be someone else, who must be writing poetry and he was just reciting them.
Maulana was very furious at his statement. He made a wonderful poem at the topic given by the man at that moment itself. The man was very impressed by him. Everyone came to realise that he was an original writer.
Maulana Azad was a strong willed man. He never bowed against injustice and faced the hardships of life valiantly. He died in the year 1958. He lived a brave life and died a brave death.
