Manta rays are large eagle rays that have triangular pectoral fins, horn-shaped cephalic fins and large mouths. They weigh up to 1,350 kg with broad heads and are black in colour with pale markings on their shoulders. They feed on zooplankton. Gestation period is 12-13 months producing one or two live pups. Lifespan is 50 years.
