All the young people in the village came into the fields to help with the harvesting and building of the haystacks. Just then, Prince Lucian rode by with his attendants for hunting. “Hey, Phil, give a hand here!” shouted someone. The prince turned to watch. ‘Phil’ was a very pretty young girl! She stood on a haystack, helping to rake it into shape. Prince Lucian fell in love with her! “Find out who she is,” he told his attendant. She was Phyllis, a farmer’s daughter, loved by everyone for her kindness and good nature. “Will you marry me and help me rule my kingdom?” Prince Lucian asked her. “I will, sir,” laughed Phyllis, “if you help me make hay now!” And Prince Lucian happily helped the farmers with pretty Phyllis. And then, a grand wedding was held with Prince Lucian marrying Phyllis! The villagers were delighted to be the guests at the palace.
