The royal painter had been called to paint a picture of Prince Lionel. No one knew that the painter had a set of magic brushes. Any portrait painted using them would talk! When the picture was complete, it was hung up in the king’s picture gallery. Visitors to the palace were always shown the palace and the gallery. One day, Princess Miranda came from a neighbouring kingdom to stay for a weekend. Prince Lionel was away on a hunt. She was impressed by the handsome prince’s portrait. On Sunday, she went alone into the gallery to see the portrait again. The picture came alive! “Hello, Princess!” it said. “Do you really speak?” asked the astonished princess. “Of course! Will you marry me?” the portrait asked. “I think I will, if you come down from the picture,” she replied. “I’m here,” said the prince who had just returned! And they were very happy to get married!
