Be in the World of News
Today Journalism has emerged as a career where the limits of fame, glamour, and authority are decided by ability and hard work. Journalism is now being recognised as a special career in the time of expansion of satellite channels and news papers and magazines. There are facilities of training in Journalism in many universities and private institutes in India. There are great possibilities in the field of Journalism for the people who want to achieve something in life.
There was a time when people entered Journalism by thinking of it only as a mission. But today new opportunities in the print media has opened up ways of journalism for a golden future. Journalism is a profession full of adventures and dangers. At the time of Independence, Journalism was a missionary profession in its pure form. The way changes have taken place in the society after Independence, there are great changes in Journalism too. After Independence, Journalism has performed an important role in the field of political consciousness. Information revolution has brought the world face-to-face with the smallest important information. Today, news has become a strong and essential part of every body’s life.
Today lacs of names have become the golden name in the revolutionary Journalism at the International level. Unlimited columnists, reporters, editors, writers, reviewers, critics, noters and specialities of different faculties are providing better ways of understanding the world. It has been said that information is knowledge. Best Journalism means — observation of reliable and trust worthy information. On one hand these information do the work of verifying the news in different forms and on the other hand they prove to be helpful in achieving it.
In the early days, there was very less participation of women in Journalism, but today’s situation is different. There has been an increasing rate of women’s participation in news compilation, edition, presentation, etc. To the best, women who have been successful Journalists in electronic media were uptill now popular T.V. personalities.
Like any other profession, here also there is a great demand of hard work and talent. Experienced people are demanded everywhere.
Reporters are the Journalists of Sub-Editor position in any newspaper or news agency. Compilation and publicity transmission are parts of Journalism. Therefore, the training, which is needed for admission in the field of Journalism is also needed for reporting. Like other professions, people who are working in reporting or news compilation can reach their goal with the help of technical training and experience. It has been seen a lot of times that reporters have been successful on the basis of experience and they really don’t feel any deficiency on account of lack of training.
There was a time, when there were no arrangements of training in Journalism. At that time even undergraduates could have become journalists. With the experience and hard work many journalists of India have set a golden path, which is a source of inspiration for the new generation entering into this field.
In reporting or news compilation, there are people who are not called complete journalists but their work and responsibilities are not less than any one of them.

Shopkeepers of small towns, students doing higher studies and teachers, they all collect news and photographs of their respective fields and send them to news papers and magazines. On the basis of quality of the material and the type of publication, articles are chosen. These type of journalists are called ‘stringer’ or part-time reporters. Many of the news- papers and magazines take help of delegates in advertising and broadcasting. On-job training improves the quality of work of the reporter. Simultaneously there are possibilities to prevent oneself from controversies.
There is one more category of journalists, who are fully devoted to their profession and are called full time journalists. It is true that higher the intellectual level of journalists, best is the reporting. It is only possible when one is educated and has taken best training in journalism.
Inspite of having a big social responsibility, even a few years back, journalism was not considered as important as law or medical studies. One important reason for this is that the growth of journalism industry was not being done for specific motives. The sphere of Journalism has too much of variations and this is the reason commercialization came very late in the mind of Journalists. But now too many opportunities are present and the need is to get benefited out of it.
