The herring is a group of 200 different species popular as food. It is silver-coloured with a single, soft dorsal fin and a protruding lower jaw. They can grow up to 46 cm long and weigh up to 700 gram. They live in large schools and feed on copepods, arrow worms, amphipods and krill. Their lifespan is 12-16 years.
