The benevolent Hatim could never leave any creature in distress. He went straight to the hunter’s house and said to him, “I have come a long way and I need your help. I am suffering from a rare disease that causes my joints to pain so much that I become immobile. My physician advised me to wash my body with the warm blood of a fox, and I shall recover. The villagers told me that lately you have caught a few foxes. Please sell them to me, so that I may be cured.” The hunter readily sold Hatim his catch, and he took them to the mother fox and fulfilled his promise. While Hatim was about to leave for his journey, the mother fox told him that one of her babies was very weak and needed human blood to survive. Hatim offered his blood. The grateful mother took a cupful and gave it to her baby, who recovered immediately.
