Ganesha as Mushikvahan

Mushik revealed his true identity to Lord Ganesha. The kind-hearted Ganesha took pity on Mushik and decided to bring an end to his sufferings. With his powers, Ganesha reduced Mushik’s huge size to a reasonably small one. Mushik also pleaded with Ganesha to use him as his mount. “Please forgive me and take me as your vahan, my Lord! I will take you everywhere you wish to go,” he squeaked. Ganesha agreed. He also made himself light enough for the mouse to bear his weight. The mouse was once again a joyous creature. From then on, Mushik became Ganesha’s vehicle. As Sage Vamdev had predicted, all who bowed down before Ganesha, paid their respects to Mushik as well. He also got to feed on the sweets offered to Ganesha. Since then, Mushik is worshipped along with Ganesha. This is how Ganesha came to be known as Mushikvahan (one mounted on a mouse).
