Found a Penny

“You are without doubt the silliest bird in the forest, Maggie!” said her mother, Mrs Magpie, “I have been trying to teach you how to pick up nice shiny things and all you can do is to bring me ribbons and cotton-balls!” Magpies always flew into towns and villages and picked up shiny things and kept them. Maggie, however, was different. She liked soft and silky and coloured things! One day, it was market day in the village and Maggie was fascinated with all the colours in the shops. There were clothes, toys, clips and cups! But everyone was giving something shiny and only then they were taking the ribbons and cups and other things. Princess Owl had come to the market too and saw Maggie there. “Maggie, go and find a penny!” she said. And that’s how Maggie learnt to find a penny to buy more ribbons! It was made possible all because of Princess Owl!
