Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi

The Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi (Fountain of the Four Rivers) was built in Rome, Italy, in 1651. The fountain represents the four major rivers of the four subcontinents through which the papal authority had spread, namely the Nile, the Danube, the Ganges and the Río de la Plata. The rivers are represented as river gods carrying objects representative of them. Travertine rocks support the statues and an ancient Egyptian Obelisk rises above them.

Amazing Fact: The ancient Egyptian obelisk situated above the river gods dated back to 81 AD.
