Once, there lived two elf brothers, honest Finarfin and greedy Pinarfin, in fairyland. Finarfin was the guardian of an ancient treasure and had magical powers. One day, when Finarfin was out, Pinarfin stole the treasure. When he returned, Finarfin understood that it was Pinarfin’s work. Knowing how greedy Pinarfin was, Finarfin said to him, “Somebody has stolen the treasure. But I still have a pot of gold on top of the tree.” The greedy Pinarfin found the pot but it was full of snakes. The snakes were about to bite Pinarfin when Finarfin stopped them with magic and said, “Pinarfin, return the treasure to me or I’ll let the snakes bite you.” Pinarfin was very scared and told his brother where the treasure was. Finarfin got the treasure and left Pinarfin on the tree with the snakes for the night. The next morning, Pinarfin was white with fear. He apologised and promised never to steal again.
