Eggshells make charming miniature planters for Easter. Creating these fragile planters can be a little tricky, calling for good fine motor skills and concentration, but the result is truly lovely. Junior botanists and gardeners will love planting flowers in these colourful pots. Place them on a windowsill or table for instant spring cheer.
What You Need:
❑ Eggs
❑ Butter knife
❑ Tablespoon
❑ Acrylic paints
❑ 3-D paints
❑ Glitter glue
❑ Paint brush
❑ Potting soil
❑ Water
❑ Grass seeds
❑ Bottle caps (12 ounce Gatorade caps work well)
What You Do:
1. Using a butter knife, make your child tap around the upper third or half of the egg and carefully remove the top.
2. Enjoy the egg for breakfast; then discard the top and carefully rinse the other half.
3. Once the eggshell is dry, make your child apply a coat or two of paint over the whole exterior.
4. Set the eggshell on an upside down bottle cap to dry.
- Once the paint is dry, make your child decorate the eggshell with 3-D paint and glitter glue.
- Allow the paints to dry, once again placing the eggshell on top of the bottle cap.
- Make your child place soil in the eggshell with a tablespoon. Fill it to the top.
- Drop several seeds into the soil and gently press them down, so they are completely covered. Add a touch more soil, if necessary.
- Make your child slowly pour a little bit of water into the eggshell so that the soil may be nice and moist.
- Find a sunny spot for your planter. Watch the grass grow a little bit every day!
