Economic problems

The First World War led to worldwide economic recession. All the countries suffered. Germany was the worst hit because of being the loser country and the demoralisation plus demand for war damages.
It led to devaluation of the currency. The factories shut down. Unemployment figures rose alarmingly. The people were losing patience. All around there was despondency and bottled up anger. In such a scenario the people were attracted to the programmes and the ideology of the Nazi Party which led to the meteoric rise of Hitler.
Parliamentary system
After the First World War Weimker Republic was established in Germany. It proved ineffective. The real power remained in the hands of the army and the bureaucrats. All the governments between 1919-1923 proved instable. No party ever gained clear majority as 34 political parties were in the field in 1928.
It led to the people see hope in Hitler.
Nazi successes
In 1930 elections Nazis won 197 seats in the lower house whereas they had won only 12 seats in 1924. This improvement encouraged Hitler.
In July 1932 polls Nazis captured 230 seats but it still was far short of majority. In the midterm polls Nazis came down to 196 seats.
Hitler realised that capturing power was not that easy. Then, extreme rightists and anti-republican forces came to his help. They promised support. Hitler stood in 1932 presidential election as candidate against Hindenberg. Although he lost yet his vote percentage was healthy.
