The 14th Dalai Lama took the throne at the age of 4 and became a monk at 6 years of age. He encouraged non-violent means to free Tibet from China, for which he received a Nobel Peace Prize. After the Tibetan Uprising in 1959, he fled to India, from where he has travelled the world advocating the welfare of the Tibetans.
