Once, Aunt Fatima’s hen had laid a dozen eggs. The hen kept sitting on the eggs to hatch them. Sheikh was quite interested in this hatching and watched the hen very closely. He kept on wandering around the hen all the time, observing it minutely. Aunt Fatima knew Sheikh and his odd ways, so she didn’t think much of his behaviour. Sheikh sat near the coop on the 21st day, as that was the day Aunt Fatima had said the hatching would take place. Slowly, cracks appeared in the eggs and tiny little chicks started coming out of them. Sheikh was gaping at this amazing sight. Aunt Fatima remarked that the sight of chicks coming out of the eggs was so magical and wonderful. Sheikh said, awestruck, “But I am wondering how the chicks got inside the eggs, to start with!” And as usual, Aunt Fatima burst out laughing at the innocent questions of Sheikh.
