Carbon Dioxide

One day, a group of scientists had a wine party. One of the scientists decided to do an experiment. He got a sheet of paper and wrote CARBON DIOXIDE, all in capital letters, upside down on a piece of paper. He then turned a wine glass on its side and put the paper under it in such a way that the word CARBON was under the cup of the glass and the word DIOXIDE was under the stem. When they looked at the paper through the glass, they saw that the word CARBON was still upside down, but the word DIOXIDE was right side up.
Why is this so?

Answer
It has nothing to do with the bending of light through the thicker part of the glass. It is simply because the word DIOXIDE, when put in all capital letters, is perfectly symmetrical vertically, meaning, it is the same upside down as it is right side up.
