Bora Bora

bora-bora-Island

The Bora Bora is an island in French Polynesia. The Bora Bora is located northwest of Tahiti in the South Pacific Ocean. While Polynesian settlers inhabited the island in the 4th century CE, a European, Jakob Roggeveen in 1722, first sighted it.

Why it is special: The island was originally known as ‘Pora Pora mai te pora’, meaning created by the gods. At the centre of the island sits an extinct volcano with two rising peaks. With a population of only 8,800 permanent residents, the island’s economy survives solely on tourism. The island is surrounded by a lagoon and barrier reef that have made the island a unique tourist destination where guests can enjoy the various aqua-centric resorts, luscious greenery and beautiful blue ocean.
