Swami Dayananda reached Maharashtra to preach his Vedic values. Maharashtra was a big strong hold of orthodox Brahmin clergy. Pune Brahmins were notorious for their bigotism.
Swamiji told people, “You are sons of Aryan race, the spiritual teachers of the world. Vedas are the real original books of religious wisdom. Come into its fold. Wake up and awaken others. Or you will always remain slaves of the aliens. The orthodox Brahmin clergy has condemned you to the object ignorance. Be led into the bright light of the true Vedic knowledge.”
He succeeded in demolishing the falsehoods of Brahmin clergy and the blind faiths and superstitions supported by them.
Swami Dayananda wanted to establish a society that would propagate the true Vedic values. He had a long time wish.
On 10th April, 1875 it was fulfilled. On that day ‘Arya Samaj’ was duly founded in Bombay.
The main aim of this organisation was to fight the social evils, Brahmin created scandalous customs, rituals, beliefs and superstitions that were eating into the vitals of Hindu society. Arya Samaj spread fast all over this country and abroad as well. It played a lead role in the social reforms and the independence struggle of India.
The organisation is still flourishing.
Swamiji was for Hindi to be the national language of India although his own mother tongue was Gujarati.
Once a British official heard Swamiji’s sermon. He was very impressed. He suggested, “Swamiji, Please go to England and spread you true knowledge there. I will take care of all the expenses.”
“I want to spend rest of my days in my own country and preach to the countrymen the message of Vedas. I want the lamp of Vedic wisdom lit here and it will spread light all over the world. Believe me that I will be proven right. You will know it and so will all the others,” Swamiji said confidently.
