Slavery does not only mean the slavery of body. When slavery existed in the society, a slave had no existence of his own—neither physical nor mental. He could neither move nor speak without the permission of the master. Now, with the changed time, the concept of human slavery has largely been eradicated from the society. Still, there are people, who dare not talk freely; there are wives who would look up to their husbands for anything to say, speak or suggest, there are children who remain scared of their parents and cannot speak out their minds.
Though, it is always good to speak in one voice unanimously on certain issues in the family or among friends but not so always few may feel scared of raising one’s voice at times. Such fear amounts to a worse slavery than even the physical one. Thoughts brew up in the mind; opinions on matters arise in thoughts but due to the fear of someone, one cannot express them–may it be the fear of husband for the wife or the fear of parents for the children or fear of boss for the assistant–but mental slavery is what stuns the mind and does not allow it to grow. An expression of opinion, with all due regards towards the one spoken to, a free expression of thoughts is a great exposure of personality, which is necessary for a rational mind—even if it be of a child. There should not be a constant scare—that is the worst—the worst phase of mental slavery and should always be discouraged. Let the free breeze of thoughts flow from all directions that alone can keep the mental horizon free from haze.
