Princess Millicent always longed for a pony but the queen was terrified of horses and thought it dangerous to ride! One day, the princess heard that a new foal had been born. She quietly went round to the stables and found a beautiful chestnut foal standing near its mother. She had been wondering how to persuade her mother to let her ride. Seeing the foal, she got an idea. “Mother, there’s a foal in the stable,” she told the queen, “I’ve named it Honey.” “Oh, dear! You’ll fall off!” exclaimed the queen. “No, I’ll only have it as a pet,” replied Princess Millicent. And she would spend hours wandering around with honey and grooming it. The queen got quite used to seeing them together and did not realise that Honey had grown into a large, handsome horse! One day, Princess Millicent had the horse saddled and off she went riding it!
