Radio

The first demonstration of the power of radio waves was given by Jagadish Chandra Bose in the Calcutta town Hall in the year of 1894. In 1895, Guillermo Marconi built the first wireless network and in 1896, he was awarded the patent for it. He established the first radio station on the Isle of Wight in 1897. Roberto Landell de Moura, a Brazilian priest, in 1900, was the first person to transmit human voice. He faced great difficulty in obtaining a patent for it. Finally, he got a patent with the help and generosity of his friends in 1904. This was the ancestor of what is known today as radio. The first radio transmission, which occurred on AM frequency in 1906, was one of ‘O Holy Night’ and a passage read from the Bible. In the 1930’s radio operators who were not professionals invented the single sideband and the frequency modulations. In 1954, the Regency company introduced the first transistor radio and this was soon followed by Sony in 1955. With the advancement of technology all radios were equipped with transistors instead of vacuum tubes excluding high-power transmitters.
