The microwave oven is a famous kitchen appliance that is recognized by many house-holds in the current era. It was invented by Percy Spencer who was responsible for constructing magnetrons for the radar sets. In 1945, the specific heating effect of the beam of high-power micro-waves was discovered. In the year 1947, the first commercial microwave oven was made and used by the public. Popcorn was the very first food that had been prepared in the microwave oven as experimentation. It is mainly comprised of a magnetron, a waveguide, a cooking chamber and a magnetron control circuit. The first microwave oven built weighed 340 kilograms and was nearly 1.8 metres tall, and needed as much as 3 kilowatts of power for its functioning.
By the year 1986, in the US, almost 25% of households had microwave ovens. Today’s microwaves are much lighter, consume lesser energy and cook food at a quicker pace.
