Cherry was running late for school. She gobbled her breakfast and gulped down the glass of milk. Then she rushed down the stairs and grabbed her bicycle. “Cherry, don’t forget to wear your knee pads and helmet,” her mother called out behind her. “But Mom, school is just a few paces away,” shouted Cherry. “No matter how short the distance, safety always comes first. Wear them!” said her mother. Cherry grumbled. Then she put on the helmet and knee pads. She got on her bicycle and was soon out of sight. Cherry was riding fast. She was so preoccupied with being late for school that she was startled when she noticed a car coming towards her at a full speed. Cherry panicked. She lost her balance and fell. Luckily, she wasn’t hurt. The helmet and the knee pads had saved the day. That was when she understood why her mother laid so much emphasis on safety.
