Mulla’s Promise

Mulla's-Promise

One day, Mulla Nasruddin was in the marketplace where the Amir’s court was being held. A hunchbacked money-lender, Jafar, said to the prime minister, pointing at an old man and his daughter, “This potter did not return the money I lent him.” The prime minister said, “Potter, you have one hour to arrange for Jafar’s money.” Then, Mulla saw the potter, his daughter and Jafar under a tree. Jafar said, “My beautiful Gulzan, your old father cannot arrange for money in one hour. If you accept my proposal, I will treat your father well.” Mulla saw a glimpse of Gulzan’s face when Jafar was trying to unveil her. He had never seen such a beautiful maiden. So, he decided to do everything to save her from evil Jafar’s clutches. When Jafar left, Mulla approached the potter and his daughter. He promised them that he would return in one hour’s time with the money and save them from cruel Jafar.
