One day, Mulla Nasruddin saw a magician performing at the bazaar. He boasted, “There is no one like me in the entire world!” “We have heard of magicians doing greater acts,” Mulla shouted. “No one can do what I did? Can you do it?” challenged the magician. “What I can do with my eyes closed, you cannot do with your eyes open,” said Mulla. “If you prove that, I will let you take me through Bukhara on a donkey as an insult. But if you fail, I will shave off your beard and moustaches,” said the magician. Taking out some red chilli powder from his bag, Mulla tossed it over his closed eyes. Then he challenged the magician, “Now you toss it into your open eyes.” “Take me through Bukhara on the donkey’s back,” the magician accepted his defeat. “No need for that! You are already on a donkey called ego. Learn to be modest if you can,” said Mulla, walking away!
Eyes Closed, Eyes Opened
