Hatim’s mission was to convince the fairy to accept the young man as her husband. First, she said it was impossible for a fairy to marry a human. Hatim gave her many examples of fairies he had met during his adventures, who were happily married to humans. The fairy then said that she was not convinced of the young man’s love. To this, the young man asked what he could do to convince her. She asked him to fill a large metal pot with oil and place it on fire. When the oil started boiling she asked him to jump into it. The young man did what he was told. Without a second thought, he walked confidently to jump into the boiling oil. The fairy was convinced of his love and stopped him before he could jump. She then agreed to be his wife. The young man left with Hatim, with a promise that the fairy would soon join him in his father’s home.
