One day, Hatim Tai saw a wounded traveller. He brought the traveller home and gave him warm water for a bath, a comfortable bed to sleep on, food and wine to eat and drink, and also attended to his wounds. Next day, when the traveller got ready to embark on his journey, Hatim asked him about his work and the traveller said, “I have to kill Hatim and take his head to my King but nobody in this area is willing to tell me where he lives. Can you take me to him?” Hatim laughed and said, “I am Hatim; take my head and serve your King!” The traveller was humbled by his generosity. He sought Hatim’s forgiveness and left without killing him. The traveller now understood why the people did not want him to know this kind man’s address and why the King wanted Hatim dead, as he was jealous of Hatim’s growing popularity.
