Princess Tracy had a habit of saying, “Goodness me!” in reply to anything. “Can you find nothing else to say, Tracy?” said the queen, quite exasperated with her daughter, “When people talk to you, they expect some sensible conversation!” Princess Tracy took her mother’s instructions very seriously. The ambassador from a neighbouring country visited them. A banquet was given in his honour. Tracy sat next to him and talked to him throughout! The expressions on the ambassador’s face made the queen very curious to know what Tracy was talking about. Therefore, after dinner the queen asked him what her daughter had been saying. “Madam, she told me all about her pet parrot and piglet! She told me about the pony she had got for her birthday and about a white mouse!” “Goodness me!” said the queen, who was taken aback. She told Tracy that in future she had better stick to say, “Goodness me!”
