Learning the Tables

Miss Holland, the governess of Princess Nora, was very angry. “Why can’t you remember the tables of 7?” she said, exasperated. “There’s a problem with 7, Miss Holland,” said Nora looking very serious. “Problem with 7?” asked Miss Holland. “What problem?” “I have seven tiaras, seven pairs of shoes, seven friends, seven rooms in my suite, seven chairs, and there are seven stars in the Great Bear, seven heavens….” went on Nora. “What do these things have to do with tables?” asked her puzzled Miss Holland. “None of these things are multiplied!” announced Nora, “They remain seven! So, why should we learn 7 times table?” “What happens when you have more tiaras or shoes or gowns?” asked Miss Holland. “That would be a problem,” agreed Princess Nora, “Then shall we learn the 7 times table?” suggested Miss Holland. Finally, she had managed to persuade the stubborn princess!
