Princess Melinda was lost! There was uproar in the palace and the kingdom. The soldiers and the ordinary people were all looking for her. Princess Melinda was just three years old and had gone out with her Nanny to walk in the meadow. Nanny had come back without her and had fainted on the doorstep! So, no one knew what had happened. While everyone ran around the city, but Peter, the goatherd, ran to the meadow. He played with the little princess when she came to the meadow every day. But that day, he had an errand. So, he had left his goats to graze and come to town. When he reached there, he found Gertie (the goat) missing. He ran back home and found Gertie in her pen. Princess Melinda was on the goat’s back, riding around and laughing, with her long ribbon tied around Gertie’s neck! Peter carried the Princess Melinda back to the palace, safe and sound.
