Legend had it that the wise man who lived on the hilltop could answer any question anyone might ask him. So, two young boys from the village below decided to fool the wise man. They caught a small bird and headed for the hilltop. When they met the wise man, one of the boys held the little bird within his hands and asked if the bird was dead or alive. Without hesitation, the wise man replied, “If I say that the bird is alive, you will close your hands and crush it to death. If I say the bird is dead, you will open your hands and it will fly away. You see; you hold the power of life and death in your hands.” He added, “You hold the seeds of failure or success. Your hands must be used for the right things like reaping great rewards.” The boys went home, inspired from the wise man’s words.
