Polly was scared of the dark. She believed that once there was complete darkness, monsters would enter her room. So, she never switched off the lights of her room. Polly’s parents wanted her to overcome her fear. So, one day, her father hid in her wardrobe, with a sheet draped over him. As Polly got into bed, she heard a sound. Shivering with fright, she asked, “Who is it?” A voice replied, “The bed monster who promises to go away if you turn out the lights!” Polly recognised her father’s voice and opened the wardrobe. For better effect, He screamed, “Don’t harm me, please!” Polly started laughing, and so did her father. “When I was your age, I scared off all the monsters by not being scared. Then on, I have been sleeping in the dark,” said father. Polly said, “Dad, if you could do it, so can I!” From that night, Polly switched off the lights and slept well.
