The Empty Boat

Julie, John, Jerry and Meg stepped onto the Sea Monster. The boat shook as they walked on its wooden deck and then became still. They wondered why the boat was named Sea Monster and who was anchoring it. No one had ever seen a person on the boat. Every night, the boat would disappear from the shore, but come morning, it would be back. John and Jerry stepped into the little cabin. It contained a little shelf, a table and a cot. The floor was speckled with a brown stain all over. Puzzled, the children then tried the steering wheel. It was rusted in places and not in working condition. “My stomach is growling,” said Jerry, making a face. “Let’s go home, eat and come back later.” The children hopped on to the shore. They were hardly 30 yards from the boat, when they heard a droning sound. They looked back. The Sea Monster had disappeared!
