‘Moving into a new apartment is not easy,’ thought Betty, tiredly. Betty had to furnish the new place completely, save for a sewing machine left by the previous owner. She had let it remain. One morning, Betty found a package at her door. Opening it, she found a pink satin gown. There was no note. Betty smiled. ‘I will thank my parents for the surprise,’ she thought. She tried on the dress at once. It was slightly loose. ‘Let me put the sewing machine to good use,’ she thought. She examined the machine. It suddenly sprang to life. The machine whirred and rolled furiously. Curiously, the seams in her dress got tighter. Still tighter it became, till she could hardly breathe. The dress pressed into her skin. She ran, dragging her feet, as the dress squeezed her legs. In the kitchen, she managed to grab a knife and shredded the dress to tiny pieces. Miraculously, the sewing machine also stopped.
